Amelia was diagnosed with Polyarticular Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis just 2 weeks after she turned 10yrs old. After months of a sore wrist and thumb, we were shocked and devastated to find out her diagnosis was actually arthritis.
After trying and failing meds, she struggled to get through school with the pain and stiffness the first 4 months. Then she was put on the biologic drug Enbrel, and started to get relief. She made it into Medicated Remission for 6 months, but sadly, Enbrel has just now stopped working as well as it first did. As her parents, it is scary to not know what will come next if the increased dose of Enbrel doesn't help. She has been through so much in the last 1.5 yrs, but she is the strongest and bravest fighter I know.
She has had 2 MRI's, months of Physical Therapy, many visits to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital, countless blood draws, trips to the Pediatric Eye Specialist, daily meds, and 2 weekly injections. That's 104 shots a year just to keep her JIA under control and to help her try to feel like a regular kid.
We really need to find a cure for this terrible disease. Imagine being 11 yrs old and waking up in the morning with pain and stiffness in both ankles, both knees, hips, wrist and thumb.
We appreciate your generosity, and your donations to help find a cure. No one should have to live with Arthritis and joint damage.
We all know someone with Arthritis. Please share this page and help us reach our fundraising goal!
Amelia and her whole family.
